Cute just got cuter

I don't know what happened when taking the picture and getting it transferred from cell phone to email that the bottom 1/4 got cut off. I still have the card so I will take another photo and add it in later as an edit. Sorry.

This card was made while I was thinking about the infamous velvet paintings of "Dogs Playing Poker". The 'paper' that "HI" is written on is actually a recycled playing card that I inherited over 20 years ago when I married my husband. We don't play cards but he had two packs of cards that we just held on to and finally a few years ago I decided to upcycle or recycle them into mixed media paper-crafting projects.

The colors on the back of the playing card and the decorative tape then led me to use blue and red papers and red and blue markers for part of the image coloring.

HIMCR #351 freestyle theme challenge featuring two graduation cards

College Graduation Card for my niece is my theme for card #1:

her college colors are blue and yellow/gold

The border under the birds is shown with the dot stickers along the bottom edge of light yellow cardstock. The birds got changed to butterflies (that are favorites of this niece) and moved up by the bow. I made the sentiment strip deeper in order to accommodate the stickers. This sketch is part of the May 2018 vertical card map selection. They've got 2 teams of DT inspirational cards using the sketches so take time whether you do scrapbooking, card-making, journaling, or all three.

High School graduate's (daughter of cousin) card #2:

Notes:

a. Both have combinations of stickers from different sources: Wal-Mart, Pen + Gear, and Create 365. 

b. Base cardstocks for both cards comes from Colorbok with the wise owl's base being a marbled print thin cardstock. (and also the light yellow CS used in Card #1 is Colorbok)
c. Gold glitter paper was purchased at Dollar Tree as part of a 3 color pack of glitter papers.
d. Wise owl upcycled note card front panel was another Dollar Tree purchase. I'm just using like a patterned paper.
e. Black ribbon on card #1 was re-used from a cosmetic bag bought at Dollar Tree.
f. The 3-D butterfly stick-ons were also a Dollar Tree recent purchase.
g. The layout for card #2 was also from Page Maps' Card Maps May 2018 sketches but one of the horizontal layout designs:

Card #2's recipient is eventually headed to medical school, so we certainly hope and pray that this planned goal of hers gets achieved. If she does, she will be the 2nd one in her generation of my grandparents' great-grandchildren to do this. Whoa!

We've got one more graduate who is a special guy in our lives, a great nephew of my husband's, that I will be making a card for very soon. Stay tuned to see what I create for him.

PPCC blog 378 for 2 May 2018

THANK YOU

This is my first autumn harvest Thanksgiving/Giving thanks theme card for 2018. For the Design Team for PPCC blog, I was assigned to the prize sponsor of A Day For Daisies (ADFD) which let us pick our choice of digital image from their inventory! Yes! So I decided to jump several months ahead in the calendar to get something prepared. I love the softs greens, hints of peach and orange, and different tones of browns from cinnamon to milk chocolate and to barn wood.

ADFD's digital image, "Catching Leaves", was used for my thank you card. I'm joined by several other design team members to represent ADFD this week, so be sure to use the PPCC blog link to see all the design team creations!

This thank you card's layout is loosely based on this CARD MAP layout sketch by Page Maps. You can find it in their archives. I 'found' this sketch suggestion through a Facebook group called 100 Pattern Paper challenge. One of the members searches the web and shares a card layout suggestion and a scrapbook one each week in order to help make it easier for group members to use 100 patterned papers in a year. The idea behind this particular group is to encourage crafters to get busy using their 'stockpiles' of pretty papers instead of saving/hoarding them!

For my card, the lower border sticker of peach hearts is in place of the tied cord shown on the sketch.  My stamped thank you sentiment is short and centered instead of covering the right half. My "Catching Leaves" image replaces the flower and the tag is eliminated. The green hearts sticker border and 2 rows of barn wood decorative tape are to allude to the horizontal top edges of the many paper layers shown in the sketch. And the green gems border row at the bottom does the same thing by replacing a bottom horizontal edge of paper.

Overall, I like the whimsy and innocence of the image matched with the hearts, arrows, and autumn color palette.
