Give Thanks card for PPCC blog DT card for no 434 challenge

Thanks go to A Day For Daisies for this sweet autumn image! During the past two years I've enjoyed seeing the products created by ADFD. They have a recognizable line stroke that I think is delicate and whimsical. My heart has broken this past week to hear through Facebook groups and blog comments that ADFD is closing their shop. So again I give thanks and appreciation to ADFD!

With this scattered leaves scene, I kept the sentiment simple "Give Thanks". I believe this is my first 2019 Thanksgiving card!

The orange and green glitter damask cardstock is from Recollections/Michaels. This was my first cut into this gorgeous paper! I've been holding onto it for about 16 months!!! It is so beautiful!

Overall dimensions: 5" deep x 7" wide; it is very difficult to see from the scanning but I added light blue swirls to show wind motion.

There's been a long delay today in the PPCC new post not being revealed yet, so I will edit it in when it becomes available. I'm checking at least every hour. UPDATE: released on 6/13/19

With the glitter cardstock's business in texture and patterns, I decided to keep the embellishments simple and limited to gold alpha stickers and yellow/gold bling mesh wrap style trim.

In the below photo, as I was preparing to make this card I knew for the poppies I would be using lots of red and red-oranges, so I knew I had to have some of that color in my paper selections. Then based on how I colored the image, the rest of the papers pre-selected were quickly edited out in order to not draw focus away from the spectacular image:

Inside panel was quickly completed with a sentiment from Stampin' Up, a simple stitching border, a foam glitter heart, and 2 small scrap sections:

Bonus paper-craft creation this week: These bookmarks that fit inside a regular letter envelope size used several of the patterned papers seen in one of the earlier photos yet such a different vibe with the images. A school district in our region's mascot is Chiefs. Their website features several pages' banners with an arrowhead, so that's why one of the bookmarks features that instead of a warrior chief profile. Their colors are red, black, and white.

PPCC blog 378 for 2 May 2018

THANK YOU

This is my first autumn harvest Thanksgiving/Giving thanks theme card for 2018. For the Design Team for PPCC blog, I was assigned to the prize sponsor of A Day For Daisies (ADFD) which let us pick our choice of digital image from their inventory! Yes! So I decided to jump several months ahead in the calendar to get something prepared. I love the softs greens, hints of peach and orange, and different tones of browns from cinnamon to milk chocolate and to barn wood.

ADFD's digital image, "Catching Leaves", was used for my thank you card. I'm joined by several other design team members to represent ADFD this week, so be sure to use the PPCC blog link to see all the design team creations!

This thank you card's layout is loosely based on this CARD MAP layout sketch by Page Maps. You can find it in their archives. I 'found' this sketch suggestion through a Facebook group called 100 Pattern Paper challenge. One of the members searches the web and shares a card layout suggestion and a scrapbook one each week in order to help make it easier for group members to use 100 patterned papers in a year. The idea behind this particular group is to encourage crafters to get busy using their 'stockpiles' of pretty papers instead of saving/hoarding them!

For my card, the lower border sticker of peach hearts is in place of the tied cord shown on the sketch.  My stamped thank you sentiment is short and centered instead of covering the right half. My "Catching Leaves" image replaces the flower and the tag is eliminated. The green hearts sticker border and 2 rows of barn wood decorative tape are to allude to the horizontal top edges of the many paper layers shown in the sketch. And the green gems border row at the bottom does the same thing by replacing a bottom horizontal edge of paper.

Overall, I like the whimsy and innocence of the image matched with the hearts, arrows, and autumn color palette.

In person, the junk journal vibe is much more evident and the mix of squash and mint teal colors anchored with neutrals of light gray, light beige, sienna brown, and chocolate brown looks more interesting.

And I did a 2nd card in under an hour this morning because I love butterflies so much and really wanted to use the ADFD image again but in more of a CAS style:

This turned out so very beautiful! The freehand butterfly image from ADFD has about 7 different colored pencils used with the same texture rub technique as the 1st card shown above.

The stages to develop this card went like this:

The sketch layout that I turned around and altered dimensions to fit my 4.5" x 8" base card:

This is Serendipity Sketch January 2018 by Miyuchi.

The sketch was turned to the left. The title was replaced with the Christian fish symbol and I placed the Happy Easter title within the cocoa brown base behind the bunny. What got to be the bottom circle shape element was removed due to size already used for the papers that I wanted to showcase like the floral edge of a designer patterned paper from The Paper Studio that was given a scalloped edge to follow the flowers in the print, so that is another example of how I changed the sketch to make it work with my chosen colors and selected papers.

Another sketch element the was moved and flipped around was shown in the sketch as a white ribbon tail paper element. For my card that element is the lavender card stock behind the bunny. Instead of stitching or drawing 2 black circle lines on the card front, I did an oval with brown dash or stitching kind of lines surrounded by black squiggly lines on each side with inserts of 2 butterflies to keep the oval curved lines leading to the super sweet rabbit.

I loved how this came together! This card will be given to my great aunt who lives across the street from us. We enjoy having both wild and domestic rabbits in our neighborhood. About 2 years ago when someone moved from town, he released his domestic rabbits to roam free instead of taking them with him or finding new owners. There were 12. The most I've seen of the large domestic rabbits has been 4 and lately through the fall and winter, I've only seen 1. So I felt it was a very appropriate theme for my aunt's Easter card to include a rabbit.

 

The butterflies were a free download from Paper Wishes website at least 3-4 years ago that got buried amongst other papers and survived our move 1 1/2 years ago and a house fire 6 months ago! The solid color cardstock papers are from Colorbok. And again the "Spring Rabbit" image is from A Day For Daisies. 

The inside panel was kept simple with more lavender cardstock, another foam heart, and a printed Easter message that part of it was outlined with a dark purple marker.

LOVE this card! I also love Easter because of the hope and promise it symbolizes for believers.
