Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! Craft artisan blogger extraordinaire Deanne announced in July 2022 that on August 1st her new challenge blog called Once Upon A Time would start. Woo-hoo!! Her premise is to have a children's book cover photo inspiration and the story be the inspiration(s) for crafters to interpret and create a project.
I asked if I could be on her design team and she said 'yes'!! YEA!!! I'm so excited!
Here's my project=
Credits: owl and bear clip art images (EduClips); I will be using the card in the classroom for reading and writing activities!!!; colored pencils; black fine point marker pen; planner sticker; layered die-cut sunflower 'stick-on'; red glitter alphas; red scrap paper; white with thin rectangular openings is recycled/upcycled packaging!!!!; kraft paper for backdrop and yellow cardstock for base; with the last back layer of kraft--just to block the printer scanner light...I've tweaked the placements but I think there are enough nods to the front cover to see some similarities. In the classroom the last few years I've used the forest/woodland as my environment decoration theme. With this mimicked card cover, I can get double duty as classroom theme decoration item and to use as either an ELA activity after reading "Dear Zoo". Besides a zoo, what other place could you use as the setting for a similar book to Mr. Campbell's "Dear Zoo"?
And here's the book cover=

***With about 2 weeks before the next school year officially starts for Midwest/Illinois, I've had 4 job offers in the past 4 days!!!! I've been job searching and applying since February, but this old girl is needed because of teacher shortages! :) I've been flattered over and over again which has been very good for uplifting my spirits. It's scary to only have 2 weeks to get a classroom organized and decorated but it's also super exciting! I have 2 endorsements areas and a short-term approval in a different subject area and the offers are split with 2 for an endorsement area of Early Childhood/primary and the other 2 are for the approval in JH science!!! :) Stay tuned for which one I pick!!!!

Thanks so very much Maxine! And yes, I keep myself busy. Paper-crafting and blogging are my stress therapies plus I need the creative outlets that they give me. Teaching helps fuel the academic geekiness I have as well. I love learning and finding creative solutions to help students enjoy learning each school day.
DeleteThat's a great take on the book jacket Becca- a brilliant start for the new challenge and your DT post.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on all the job offers- it's great to be in demand. Hope you enjoy your new job.
Thanks for joining in at Fab'n' Funky.

Chris: Thanks for the sweet compliments! I wanted to riff many of the cover art design elements into my forest version such as the colors, placement of title and author's name, the bar/opening spaces, and a little sign or extra sentiment. Glad you like it!
DeleteWay to go shopping your stash…thanks for playing along with our WTHeck embellishments challenge over at SOS! Good luch on your new job. I too will be starting a new job within our local school system.
