Thank you...We've been blessed

Recently my husband and I were gifted with an oval wooden kitchen dining table and 3 chairs with an additional drop leaf table from a buddy's father-in-law's property. The f-I-l passed about 3-4 weeks ago and we've just been back in our repaired home about 6-7 weeks now. Last August we had a house fire that destroyed about 40-43% of our structure and wiped out about $19-20K in personal property. Even with homeowner's insurance, it's been a struggle juggling everything financially because we've also been battling health trauma and drama that's taking its own toll upon finances, time, and energy. We've truly been blessed with receiving these furniture items! Out of another's sorrow, we were gifted immensely! The least we can do is give them a nice hand-made card:

getting started--I've selected most of my key papers I want to use, my hand-drawn sketch of the layout to follow, tracing stencils, etc.

The digital image has been colored and is waiting to be cut and then mounted on peach stripe designer paper that will be stacked onto a bright yellow print paper.

This odd shape is a stencil from Folk Art Decorative Icons stencil set from Plaid. I've used this oddity often in the past 2-3 months. "Blessed" is part of a stencil page from a Bible Journaling set from American Crafts.

my inspiration for the card layout is this sketch suggestion from page maps; it was shared with the Facebook group 100 Pattern Papers this week and I wanted to modify it for this long vertical digital image

Notes:

a. colors were deep teal or pine green, teal green, red, red-orange, peach, yellow

b. the sketch suggestion showed several stacked circles behind the fruit elements so I've got a partial flower petal moved to the right side and partial butterflies side by side for the far right "scallops"

c. The base card is made from Watercolor Rainbow Cardstock from Colorbok

d. 4 of the designer patterned papers are from Colorbok

e. the peach stripe designer patterned paper used on the front behind the digital image and also used on the inside panel behind the stenciled sentiment is from The Paper Studio (Hobby Lobby)

f. the digital image was colored with a combination of markers and colored pencils 

g. the digital image was colored with a mix of hues for both flowers, blossoms (orange, red, red-orange, and pink), and stems (olive green, pine green, and teal green) with a blue colored pencil lightly shading the sky area and also surrounding "Blessed" for the inside sentiment

h. Love the results and hope our neighbor friends from 3 blocks over like it, too!

after gathering items to get started, I ended up going a different direction and not using half the items shown....

I love how the cats turned out! The left is colored in a red-orange with red hearts, rusty brown nose and whiskers and the right is colored in orange with orange hearts and brown nose and whiskers. I took other liberties with the image to trim off some extra motion marks on each side plus the whiskers were shortened for each cat.

Last weekend 2017 quick card and bookmark #3 of 3 posts

Clean and simple is terminology in the paper crafting world for straight-forward layout and elements that aren't fussy. (CAS)

Using recycled foil gift wrap as background print, I was able to make a small 3" deep x 5.5" wide left-sided folded card and about a 2" wide x 5.5" long bookmark:

overview: let it snow tag front panel is all that is needed to accent the deer in the gift wrap print 

inside panel: "You are snow special" was received as a freebie daily winner from the Holiday Chaos challenge week at Catch the Bug Challenges Blog by Bugaboo Stamps. It was printed on white copy paper and then colored lightly with blue and violet colored pencils and backed with neon blue paper scrap (Grafix). It has another scrap of teal blue cardstock (Colorbok) that has been inked and has scribbles colored behind it.

2. Light blue oval frame cardstock and teal blue cardstock behind the polar bear image are Colorbok.

3. Tonal blue designer paper is from The Paper Studio by Hobby Lobby.

4. White cardstock is recycled packaging scraps cut to look like snow drifts.

5. Snowflakes foam stickers, gray satin ribbon, iridescent gems, tree pop-art style sticker, silver 5" x 7" photo frame, and let it snow graphic (gift tag) were purchased at either Dollar General or Dollar Tree.

6. Plastic (snow globe or glass window look) is recycled packaging.

7. Various general arts and crafts supplies to complete details: black gel ink pen, markers, colored pencils, pencil, ruler, scissors, & adhesives.

Isn't that just TRIPLE goodness in creativity?!?! The design team did amazing work, too, for inspiration.

So, I just have to enter right? And I needed to create an Advent Day 16 (December 16) ATC. Brilliantly, I decided to work ahead and craft Day 17 and 18 too. With church and a potluck tomorrow and cardiac rehab on Monday along with blood work, my husband and I have a couple of hectic days. Getting a jump start on crafting goals this afternoon has been a very good thing!

Aren't these the cutest winter creatures?!?! I had to pick out 3 pink theme papers that were part of a clearance bundled package of The Paper Studio scrapbook paper purchased at Hobby Lobby last weekend. Each one of the trio (separated the images) has all three patterned papers in different size ratios. Each one has a focus color that is used for the # of day and to border the panel image but they all have the color used at least once in their image.

Pinks, green, brown, white are also the current color combination for Color Throwdown #473 so I will have these as my 2nd entry for that challenge.

Advent ATCs Days 14 and 15

ATCs. "O Christmas Tree" is theme for Day 14 and "You are snow special" is theme for Day 15.

Traditionally artist trading cards (ATCs) are 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" but Day 14's is oversized. To get 2 partial trees and a central full tree formed by stencil I needed a little more space.

Day 15's image is a freebie to me because I won a random drawing for the Bugaboo's Catch the Bug's Holiday Chaos challenge last week. I was the daily freebie winner for Thursday, which was fantastic for submitting only on Wednesday and Thursday. Yea, me!!!

Day 14: 

Supplies and vendors=

Technique tip:

*Even with the decorative tape being a micro, I still cut it in half to match the proportion of the tree better to have it zig-zagging its way down the tree.

Technique tip:

*The image was trimmed at some odd angles but I angled the placement some due to the narrow background ATC compared to the image. I could have oversized the base layer but decided to keep it interesting with the twisted pic.

*The snowman's scarf is actually light pink and dark purple but the light pink is photographing like coral or peach.

So I did an Advent ATC and a get well ATC using the same color challenge and sketch in a previous post and decided I better do something a little more Christmas holiday with these.

The center pentagon/pointed shape is loosely applied here with the partial poinsettia serving as the pointed area and the "God So Loved the World" tag is for the square/rectangle portion above the ribbon (which for me is the tape):

The colors are better at closely aligning with more of those presented in the challenge photo. Even with using the recycled food lid metallic silver aluminum instead of the grey, the spectrum of colors are creatively suggested in this non-traditional "card".

Two ATCs (artist trading cards) made for the same color combo from Catch the Bug and sketch layout from Sweet Sketch Wednesday 2 #127:

What a color palette!!!

What an amazing layout to use lots of patterns and/or colors!!

Here's the 1st ATC, an advent ATC, for December 8 or Day 8:

Light gray is the base cardstock (2.5" x 3.5") the light lavender cardstock slightly smaller is layered on top. The pointed shape is rotated on this ATC and the stenciled hearts are to mimic the bow. Light pink is the color of the pointed pentagon shape with purple and magenta for the stenciled hearts. #8 is stenciled in medium blue. So I managed to use the gray, pink, and magenta from the color challenge photo.

Here's a close-up to hopefully see the colors better and also the inking around the edges:

This is the 2nd ATC, a get well, for a great aunt to be mailed tomorrow:

Purple is the color of the base (2.5" x 3.5") and light pink for the slightly smaller layer. A turquoise/teal blue is for the pointed pentagon shape shown in the sketch layout illustration. Navy blue was used for "get" and dark purple was used for "well". Dark purple heart to mimic part of a bow is next to the 'w' of well and magenta hearts are in the 2 bottom corners. The deco tape has a lot of different colors in it and hopefully help unify the colors.
