Make It Krafty Theme for MTTC no 398 Design Team Project

Kraft paper is the challenge theme prompt for the new bi-weekly, every other Friday, #398 at My Time To Craft blog

I decided to use the kraft cardstock as accent pieces. The kraft CS was laid over a brick wall patterned texture rubbing plate and colored with brown and raw sienna crayons. Two sections have additional crayon colors in order to add a sentiment word (Sympathy) and a butterfly border.

Design notes:
a. center focal piece is from a coloring book; approx. 3.25" wide and 3.75" high
b. white cardstock is recycled packing insert from glue adhesive dots (!); 3.5" wide and 4" high
c. purple cardstock base measures 5" by 7"
d. the purple with blue flower patterned paper measures 4.5" wide by 6" high
e. washi tapes are from set by Pen + Gear
f. all papers and embellishments of butterfly and gem dots have been in my craft supplies for a very long time...feels good to get them used in spite of my aching heart today learning that my cousin's 30 year old daughter passed away two days ago

I turned the sketch design to the right 90 degrees. Instead of flourishes, I decided this would be great spots for the little brick wall textured accents made using the required kraft cardstock for MTTC. The gray ribbon area on the sketch became the 2 narrow strips of washi tapes that help reinforce the emotion behind the sentiment (sympathy). Some gem dots and a butterfly instead of the star help complete the card.

for evidence the elements include: coloring book focal using markers and colored pencils; texture 'brick wall' on kraft cardstock; glossy white cardstock, purple cardstock; purple with blue flowers patterned paper; washi tapes; gem dots; foil butterfly

Lovely roses with butterflies digital image 4 ways for DT project at PPCC no 432

The featured floral box digital image is part of a Floral Set 1 from Bugaboo which was one of the options presented to the design team for PPCC's #432 challenge from this week's prize sponsor. They have the cutest animals, sassy Stella, and the loveliest nature among their images inventory. Here's Card #1 I created using one of the images in Floral Set 1 (printed at 3.5" x 5" with base 5" x 7")=

#1= imagine

I turned the sketch design to the right 90 degrees. I stenciled flourishes for 2 of the 4 cards. A 3rd got cording loops. A 4th got washi tape pieces. Due to enlarging the size and layers of the focal/center, I did not do a ribbon type strip that is shown in gray on the sketch. I have used gem dots. The star has been replaced with butterfly(-ies). And 3 of the 4 have sentiments in same location as the sketch. Only 1 has it on the opposite side and that was due to placing 2 butterflies on the left side of the focal.

Here are #2, #3, and #4=

#2= discovery, imagine

#3= good friends and great adventures

#4= thoughts, dreams

all the papers come from my May kit or scraps bag that has accumulated from previous months' kits

embellishments have been added in, including stencils used for making the 2 different types of flourishes [Pebbles Stencils set of 10 of accents purchased about 10 years ago from Paper Wishes.com] and for the sentiment in #4 [Pen + Gear planner kit recent purchase at Wal-Mart]

Hope you've enjoyed this ambitious under-taking for this design team project. I've got several family members who have birthdays in June and another few who've been sick or need cheering up. So my assortment needed to be re-stocked.

b. Facebook group "100 Pattern Paper Challenge" graphic inspiration of May Scrapbooking Month's colors: teal, peach, yellow-green, ivory (used some teals in several strips, some peach/orange esp. gem dots, some yellow-green/grass green hues, manila file folder CS on each page for ivory)
shapes: curves, ribbon tails, butterfly, dragonfly (opted to use only curves)

c. Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog May 2019= I put together several mini kits; at least 2 CS came from May (and most of the others have been added recently with other CKC projects): the pale butter and white chevron strip and the Earth globe print section

d. TN Time with Lisa and Lori= using Lisa's sketch #5 (not a literal interpretation but strongly influenced some placements, shapes, overall vibe, and most elements)

sketch=

sketch notes:
a. the title starts in same spot
b. the index card's lines in the pocket inspired the strips
c. the foam giraffe is used instead of the flower on the left side and then on the right side, I used a tiny foam giraffe where the top small flower is and the large Imagine That digi giraffe image was used where the bottom flower is
d. shapes and sizes of other papers varies to the sketch as do the gray divider strip
e. but I think there are enough referenced elements to include this TN sketch and for me to link to their challenge
f. there is another 'half' or separate challenge prompt offered by Lori this month to include a hidden element but I didn't take time to do that

e. Facebook group "Traveler Notebook Scrapbookers": they want to see your entries not covers

f. Facebook group "Paper, Paper, Paper & DT Calls": I will post a preview link to their page

More scanned pics and close-ups:

Above: close-up of upper right page; 2 of the gem dots shown are orange however against the kraft cardstock, they look more rust or red

Old stock= foam giraffes were ordered from Oriental Trading Company about 10-12 years ago! I still have giraffes, monkeys, and other

Above: left page of double spread

Note: the digital giraffe image is filled in with colored pencils using 3 different hues of yellow, red umber, light brown, chocolate brown, black, and dark orange for the mug and tongue...I love how it is done!!!

Mid Month May 2019 reminder for favorite technique theme at APTS blog

A Place To Start blog DT project for mid-month reminder featuring mixed media technique and sketch design for layout of elements. Full blooms is the mood theme and a mystery song's clues are within the layout:

This blog is only a couple of months old and I became part of the resident designer squad this month. My posting showcases a mid-month reminder of "Tempting Techniques" theme. What is your favorite technique(s) to feature? You still have time to link-up to A Place To Start. link=

Other challenges or groups that I am planning to link-up this project to:
a. Inspired By #71 "Full Bloom" theme and photo prompt (ends May 15th but am using its theme)

b. Not Just Cards May 2019 Anything Goes theme started on May 11th
http://notjustcardschallenges.blogspot.com/2019/05/may-challenge-results-of-april.html

c. new Facebook group pre-challenge in May 2019 at Mix Up That Song!--mixed media challenges based on a song; for this very beginning Tynke has asked for participants to pick a song to base their mixed media project on and let her guess the title.

You can use printed copy, part of lyrics or title, image from a record cover, etc. Sounds like a fun idea for getting creative!

d. Paper Play Sketches #51 from Pause Dream Enjoy by Janis Lewis for the sketch design that I'm basing the layout; APTS blog has a page of these as part of their resource library; here's the photo collage for #46 - 54 using #51 rotated to the left and then size of sections tweaked with some extra embellishments since this is size of scrapbook layout (8.5" x 11") and has mixed media focus=

e. SHARING= my Facebook group "Mixed Media Creativity"--closed group started a few months ago for my crafty friends and family to share what they are creating that mixes mediums of supplies...so far I've been contributing the most but would love for this to expand

f. SHARING= Facebook group "Papers, Papers, Papers & DT Calls" --will post a blog link once I have this ready to release

g. Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog= May 2019= from my compiled mini kits I did--check these photos:

*mixed media approach
*tweaked sketch design
*journal card, pocket card, blue and white chevron paper, solid blue paper, and the wheat color based floral patterned cardstock are some of my copy cats pulled from my crafting supplies for the May 2019 CKC blog challenge

Very springtime! Like a garden explosion of an assortment of blooms and butterflies! My heart longs for the beauty offered in the spring season!

2 of 4 design team commitments revealed on May 15, 1 on May 17, and this one (APTS) on May 20 so be sure to check them all!

DT project for MTTC no 397 TAG you are it theme

Elegant Christmas tag for my husband

DT project for My Time To Craft #397 with a tag theme
Link: https://mytimetocraftchallenge.blogspot.com/2019/05/challenge-397-tag-youre-it.html

this stunning tag could also be saved until January for our 24th anniversary! Since we got married in winter and about a month after Christmas, I've used before the deer image and play on word(s) of "I love you dear" or "I love you dearly". He loves humor and to tease, so it's a very subtle way for me to insert some creative humor.

Some supplies and vendor details:
a. coppery gold textured paper = Paper Wishes (I've hoarded this beauty for about 10 years!)
b. butterscotch marbled cardstock = Colorbok
c. black and white zebra-like patterned paper and the 2 deer Christmas stickers = The Paper Studio/Hobby Lobby
d. buttery yellow and white chevron striped cardstock = My Mind's Eye/American Crafts
e. 3 washi tapes = Pen + Gear purchased at Wal-Mart

More photos scanned and partially cropped:

Other blogs or groups that I'll link-up this stunning tag to=

a. Facebook group = "Paper, Paper, Paper & DT Calls"

b. The 12 Months of Christmas Link-Up Challenge blog = optional theme Creature Feature
link= http://12monthsofchristmaslinkup.blogspot.com/2019/05/challenge-53-opt-twistcreature-feature.html

c. Winter Wonderland Challenge Blog = Anything But Square Card theme
link = https://christmasblogchallenge.blogspot.com/2019/05/anything-but-square-card.html

d. Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog = May kit reveal (the foil, marbled CS, and yellow and white chevron CS are in my May CKC mini kits that I put together)
link= https://counterfeitkitchallenge.blogspot.com/2019/05/may-2019-counterfeit-kit-challenge-kit.html

e. Facebook group = "100 Pattern Paper Challenge" because the black and white paper was one that I had in my 2019 starter kit (encourages you to use at least 100 papers per year)

I just LOVE how this tag came together! And I guess I shouldn't make you all jealous by telling that the Christmas stickers from The Paper Studio were bought for 20 cents!!! I was shopping in Hobby Lobby about 3 days before Christmas and found these on an endcap marked clearance, so I snagged 2 packs. This is my first project using the gold and black color theme stickers!!

Thanks for visiting! Sometime later today I should have a PPCC blog DT post to reveal, then another on Friday, May 17 for My Time to Craft challenge blog and the last design team commitment will have a mid-month type reminder post on Monday, May 20.

Crafting has always been a hobby of mine since I was about 9 years old! In the past 2 years it has become more about being a stress reliever due to lots of traumas and dramas that my husband and I have been experiencing. For whatever reason you craft, keep being creative. It is a wonderful way of expression.

Sending Smiles card of Bear Cub and have a Fab Birthday card for PPCCB no 429 design team inspiration

Brave bear cub is reminding that "you've got this"! Sending smiles your way! Card #1

The cute digital image is from Fabrika Fantasy and they are a prize sponsor & DT crew's image sponsor at PPCC blog for #429. Another prize sponsor is Di's Digi Stamps. All the details can be found using the link I'll provide later in the post...so keep reading!

The image was printed on kraft cardstock then outlined; cut; mounted onto bold yellow paper before being added on top of the chevron patterned strip and the 2 pocket cards:

CARD #2 Have a Fabulous Birthday! using same image of Bear Cub from Fabrika Fantasy for PPCC blog's #429=

Some design notes about the construction of these cards and other challenge/blog link-ups=

Card #1=the mocha brown cardstock base for the card is the B/reverse side of the yellow with the palm trees and arrows as its corner design; these papers were put together as one of my May CKC blog mini kits (their inspirational picked kit has lots of reds, yellows, greens, and blues along with lots of travel motifs)

-----

Card #1=the 2 pocket cards were from a sheet that I used in January 2019; the pack had 2 sheets; the reverse side is a muted red and cream lattice print which I almost used but decided to use the circus/amusement park themed cards behind the bear cub

this is another May 2019 mini kit I organized from about 4-5 months of previous leftovers that I thought either color or theme wise helped reflect the picked kit to emulate; as you can see the 'ticket to ride' card and a different one with elephants were trimmed out to use; the remainder of the sheet is turned over and shown on the left.

Card #2's base is a reverse of an old-fashioned camera patterned cardstock also in another May mini kit; as well as the cream solid color cardstock that the focal bear image is printed on.

___

Jo's Scrap Shack #280 FFC=Always Anything Goes theme; started May 3rd and ends May 10th; link: http://www.josscrapshack.com/2019/05/ffc-280-aag-with-paper-shelter.html

----

More scanned & cropped views of Card #1 brave bear cub encouragement card=

I'm my own worst critic; not happy with the use of colored pencils on the kraft cardstock for Card #1. I thought it would have a softer effect; that not so much filling in would have to be done. Then it seemed like I just had to keep coloring and layering different hues everywhere; like the balloon that started with yellow and then had orange and pink added..ugh!

------

I'm happy with the outlining. And the outlining around the 2 stickers in the corner because that gray helps unify with the edging of the pocket cards and the gray chevrons in the patterned cardstock strip. Otherwise, this card makes a cute encouragement project to mail this week.

______

Card #2 has a C.A.S. styling that is not normal for me! I like that foam tabs were used behind the image to lift it up, just like the sentiment stick-on. The fill-in for this bear was used with my secret tool (glitter eye shadow!!!). I outlined this image too but did a double band using reddish brown marker for the outer band and purple for the inner band. The balloon is lavender, the journal card has a mauve-pink, and the sentiment stick-on has lavender. I think they are great contrasts to the dark brown base CS.
