My MTTC #552 masculine theme thinking of you DT card on 24 January 2025

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog!

why: This post focuses on my newest themed DT project for My Time To Craft challenge blog. MTTC's #552 theme is masculine (make it male). Another design team member suggested this topic. It should be very popular. I decided to go colorful, geometric prints, flat and no 'frills'.

when: MTTC's #552 starts on Friday January 24, 2025 and lasts for 13 days.

what: #552 theme is masculine = Hey! Hello! thinking of you card

notes: this will be sent to a cousin who is battling Parkinson's and needs some cheering up; he grew up about 20-25 miles where I live now; his parents are still there however he's been living the past 30 or so years about 3-4 states away.

1. base = Wild Blueberry cardstock = CutCardStock

2. next layer up = Sandcastle cardstock = Martha Stewart through CutCardStock

3. next focal layer = Pop Tone Grape Jelly cardstock = CutCardStock

4. big letter die-cuts = (old) Jillibean Soup

5. two washi tape strips = ? /received in a kindness box

6. scrap strip of purple for the bottom border = Art Skills cardstock

7. papers were inked/edged with = Marina Mist by SU

8. focal area was outlined with black dual-tip marker = Art Skills

c. Creative Knockouts; started on Jan 16; theme of 'what to say'/use a sentiment; for MY masculine card I wanted some prints that weren't hearts and flowers and luckily in my sifting through the letters left in the pack, I had H-E-Y that repeats 'hello' tape and is an expression that I hear lots of guys use...like I don't remember your name but I recognize your face..."Hey!" or "Hey, you!".... tee-hee

d. The Male Room; started Jan 1/still current; theme of 'clean and simple' with masculine; my card is for masculine challenges plus the style was kept clean with the only embellishments of washi tape strips; there is open space in the focal area around the letters, in between the words 'hello' in the bottom tape border and then even on the purple strip bottom border, it's empty/clean

e. Try A Sketch on Tuesday; started Jan 16/still current; sketch with a side strip and 3 overlapping circles; on my card, the sketch is flipped around and then I added some perpendicular side strips/borders

Masculine Theme February 2020 Challenge at APTS blog

Greetings from the USA heartland and Becca's Heart for Creativity!

For this inspirational card for my resident designer commitment with A Place To Start challenge blog is a masculine birthday card that will be sent to either my oldest nephew or nephew-in-law who both have upcoming February birthdays. Since it has a travel theme I will probably send it to the N-I-L, who enjoys vacationing on his off-time (an ER doc).

Didn't these elements come together to make an interesting guy's birthday card?!!?!!! The ship image was an insert of a frame about traveling, but due to the base dimension of 5"x 7", the frame couldn't be used but this perfect insert could be by itself. It's propped up a bit with foam squares. This ship oval was stamped (from Hampton Arts) and edge inked. Brenda Walton's Around the World Frame & Journaling Pad (2011) including acetate designs is available by K & Company. A few weeks ago, one of my sweet fellow church members & a very crafty gal herself gifted this to me, so I'm excited to start using a blessing!

February 2020's masculine theme challenge for APTS blog starts Monday, February 3rd=

another vendor credit to Martha Stewart Crafts for the "Happy Birthday" ribbon; it's been in my stash for several years. This is my 2nd card in 4 days that I've used it so there's not much left on the spool. (Another good feeling when you can finish up a product that's been buried in amongst other ribbons and cording within larger stockpile!) :)

CKCB Feb 2019 kit scraps make pickle pun bday card using a LSD sketchy saturday layout

Birthday guy--Is he a big deal? Maybe he's a big dill?!!!??

Design notes=

a. pickle theme elements: pickle jar pun sticker, all the various green tones, and the zig-zag border sticker reminded me abstractly of dill's feathery appearance

b. scraps from CKC Feb 2019 kit that I compiled: yellow-green mottled cardstock scraps, olive green plaid scrap, the variegated paisley patterned cardstock, and the focal/center patterned cardstock section

Challenges link-ups=

a. CKC blog February 2019 kit (Bodacious Botanicals) scraps used

b. Sketchy Saturday challenge from Laurel Seabrook Designs (LSD)

Below: close-up pic (BTW/by the way...BW is code for Best Wishes!!!)

Below: set of 3 masculine recipient birthday cards made in 1 crafting session and from 1 sketch design

(Do you see the sketch design from LSD reflected in all 3 cards? AND for this card I rotated the design orientation from vertical to horizontal!!)

I really love how all three cards are filled with mix and match assorted patterns!!! Reminds me of gentlemen who can't dress themselves by mismatching their socks or having their tie clash with their shirt's pattern!!! Little touches of everyday humor makes a crafting session enjoyable. Hope you enjoyed seeing my efforts this week!

Inspired By Industrial Charm no 22 challenge card two

strong geometric patterns, lines, and deep dark colors

Design note about the theme: I wanted to support the theme with the scraps of different patterned papers and some additional blueberry cardstock at each corner to look like a builder's stack of lumber just fell and went every which way it could.

This is the photo to get INSPIRED BY from Laurel Seabrook Designs blog.

Design note 2: Guess what my secret mystery supply is on this card cover?

Answer: The center focal piece is--a coaster! Yes! Who knew!?!?! As soon as I saw the 4 pack of coasters for 98 cents, I envisioned using 1 or 2 this summer for graduation or promotion cards.

Watch for the next blog post where I alter the coaster for the next clean-and-simple version of this one.

Quick make masculine appreciation card

My husband requested a small thank you card to accompany a gift card for one of his buddies who has helped us immensely over the past 7 months.

We've had trauma and drama that would have most people crying in despair. Without any extra details this is the timeline: August 6-14, 2017 I was hospitalized with saddle pulmonary embolism with right-side heart failure and a heart attack; August 13, 2017 house fire that destroyed 40-43% of the structure and $19-20K of personal property; October 27-28, 2017 husband hospitalized with mild heart attack; January 6-8, 2018 husband hospitalized for another mild heart attack; and January 17-18, 2018 husband in hospital for another mild heart episode. UGH!!

Great news we are focusing on thanking the good Lord for sparing us so many times, appreciating the small and large blessings via friends, family, and strangers, and regaining our health and home!

Crafting has been part of my therapy. My husband thrives on helping his buds. He loved being Mr. Fix It but now has to limit his time amounts and lifting or else pay the cost of chest pain. This winter we've been going together to the closest hospital 25 minutes away for 3 mornings per week to use its Life Fit wellness/exercise phase 3 cardiac rehab center. Conditioning our bodies gradually has helped us each to gain back stamina. We still have improving but we've come from death's door to now leading semi-active lifestyles!

The appreciation card was easy to make with 2 different colors of cardstock in different sizes, decorative tape, 3 colors of cording, stencil lettering, stamper, pencil, ruler, and dark blue marker and colored pencil for a 2-tone effect for "Blessed".

The colors are a dark blue-gray, light gray, and red. The light gray cardstock triangles are the same size and placement was just rotated from the front to the inside and position was slid down when you compare front to inside. The striped tape was placed on an angle to give it an unexpected twist and not be so predictable on placement.

Thanks, buddy!

CTD 474 neutral trio card 2

Gray. Ivory. Black. First week of the new year and Color Throwdown blog has presented the challenge to use a trio of neutrals. Go to the blog post for #474 to get the details and also see the large design team's inspirations (which are amazing).

Here is their inspiration photo and palette badge plus a website link:

http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/2018/01/color-throwdown-474.html

Isn't that lovely? I wish I had a designer paper like that with the pretty birds. But alas I don't.

For this 2nd card for this challenge, I've used a tribal designer paper and a tonal leopard print designer paper that are from The Paper Studio by Hobby Lobby.

gray, ivory beige, and ivory are the solid colored cardstock used on front panel
gray and yellow markers used to color fill "HB", candle, and 1 wish
white cardstock base, papers, and yellow star have had edges inked in black

Inside panel's sentiment was part of a page full found online and printed on white copy paper. I laid it over a numbers stencil to get an embossed texture to add interest when using yellow, brown, and black colored pencils to cover up the white. A black triangle of scrap and the leopard designer paper complete the inside.

Before getting this card ready for mailing, I did the lettering to personalize this card for my cousin with a late January birthday. He's going to be very surprised to get happy mail. He taught in Ecuador for many years and met his wife there, so I thought these adventurous designer papers would appeal to him.

Like card 1 for this CTD #474, I've used a bit of yellow and beige-y browns. I wish I had more ivory and gray, but right now, my small stash is limited. This has been a true challenge for me just after Christmas. My crafting creativity brain and fingers have been making either red and green or blues and silver combinations but I've been thrown into challenges this week for using pink (which also happens to be my 2nd favorite color) and the neutrals. Oh! But who doesn't like a good problem or puzzle to solve?

Still freezing in the Midwest, Becca

CTD #474 ivory gray black

Color Throwdown's challenge this week is a trio of neutrals: ivory, gray, and black. Check out their blog post for details on this current challenge and see the design team's inspirational creations which are amazing.

http://colorthrowdown.blogspot.com/2018/01/color-throwdown-474.html

The inspiration photo and palette from the blog:

I chose to do a masculine birthday card for a cousin whose b-day is 9 days away and he lives a couple of states over. So I best get this card in the mail tomorrow and won't he be surprised!?!!

Recipe:
a. white cardstock base is folded on left side and is about 3 .25" x 5.25" for each half (Georgia-Pacific)
b. ivory and darker ivory/beige cardstock and black paper are all from Colorbok
c. designer paper that looks like wood paneling (The Paper Studio by Hobby Lobby)
d. banner stencil is from a Bible Journaling set (American Crafts)
e. letter and birthday cake stencil are from a very old set (Tupperware/Tuppertoys)
f. staples and glue stick for adhesives

Papers were edged in black ink to help reinforce the challenge palette.

The rectangle paper on left is a very light gray (Colorbok) and the sentiment was found in online searching for birthday sentiment images. It was laid over a doily to get the textured marbled look when I used colored pencils (yellow, brown, and black) to obscure the white copy paper look. Black photo corners were added. After I took these photos, I stenciled my cousin's nickname in black gel pen on the gray to personalize this birthday card.

Using a cell phone to take photos fades out lighter hues, so the creamy ivory I chose for the circle has a stenciled traced birthday cake outlined in gray marker and the "hb" outlined in black marker.  "Hb" is filled in with black colored pencil and then the same was used lightly applied to the cake portion. A little bit of yellow colored pencil was used for the flame area of the candles.

Overall, I tried to stick mostly to the trio of ivory, gray, and black for this birthday card.

The birthday touches hopefully don't get lost and are just enough for this small card. There is the banner with "wish", the birthday cake shape with "hb" (code for Happy Birthday!), and the inside panel sentiment. I'm thrilled with how this came together.

Nephew Birthday Card for Year 13

<a href="https://www.bloglovin.com/blog/6021797/?claim=fqayjugmaf9">Follow my blog with Bloglovin</a>

Quick and easy card for my youngest nephew

Reaching that milestone age to be declared a teenager!

His favorite colors have been orange and green so it would be remiss of me not to use them! The collage image of all the thirteens was found online! Yea! Even the enlarged one was found online in standout orange!! Perfect!

Other supplies used were:
*glue stick from Jot
*bright neon orange cardstock (7" x 11" and then folded in half to be 3.5" deep) from Astrobrights-Neenah Papers, Inc.
*green cardstock scraps (2) from Colorbok
*Expressions masking tape (mint green design) from Scotch
*deco tape from Jot
*stenciling letters from wording/Bible journaling set made by American Crafts
*other stash supplies like: markers, pencil, ruler, scissors, computer paper, ink, and printer

Here's the front:

The focal image extends about 1/2"-1" above the top folded edge.

This is how I did the inside:

I used the Expressions masking tape to make ribbon accents. And I like the different fonts pulled from the stencil set to make a bold sentiment.

And this is the angled view to get a glimpse of both front and inside:
Until next post,

bright colorful geometric gender neutral card for a guy

Yea, I said gender neutral. Age-appropriate? It's for one of my husband's best buds who is 17 days younger than me (55). He's had some hardships lately and I felt he needed to have a colorful birthday card.

I've used some of the same pattern papers recently but in a totally different way.

Non-traditional card format: two 6"x6" light blue cardstock pieces twined together
Twine holes: 1" apart
Twine/cording: 3 different ones=yellow& white, blue & white, and red & black
Pattern papers, happy print patterned cardstock, glue stick, scissors, paper trimmer, black marker, Hampton Arts ink pads, small sentiment stamps,

Inside or back square page was kept super simple: on the left side going vertically down, I wrote large H. B. (for happy birthday) #55.

Here's front page:

And this is a glimpse of the back:

I've made some other cards too this week, including Christmas!!! Yes, I have tried for about 8 years now to get a few made in the summer months because it always seems like the fall gets so busy and complicated. I've got a quick make get well card to show and a sneak peek of the first Christmas 2017 cards to write about in a few days. So with a heart for creativity--Becca

Masculine birthday card #3 of 3

Husband's card on inside--simple but I like better than the cover?!?!!!

Hard to imagine but it happens from time to time. The cover and inside ended up competing for too much visual attention. I have to remember if I have a visually busy cover then I need to have a simple inside. Maybe this should be my craft resolution for the new year!!!!!

Masculine Birthday Card #2 of 3

Card #2 recipient--my "little" brother! His favorite color is orange so I always try to incorporate it into his birthday cards.

Sharing another "old" creation

Quick card for college student nephew

Due to Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome, I have been unable to have children and as a teacher, I get asked the question at least 3 times by each new group of students I meet. So years ago, I became the doting aunt, relishing in my "job" to spoil my 4 nieces and 2 nephews. This special group now ranges from age 24 to 9!!!

A quick card I made for my nephew last spring is still precious to me--cute combination of colors!

2nd installment of embellished pre-prints

Embellished pre-printed note cards

Another design...a different approach...masculine receiver

I tried to keep it simple...I know...that's extremely hard for me to do. But I really really tried this time!!! I used some sisal twine to give some roughness but I used the glittered dots to add some shine and texture against the dark chocolate brown background of the pre-printed design. Inside I used a leaf shape to continue the flower/weed images from the front. And I've repeated colors of beige, gold, and blue to help make color consistencies.

What do you think?
