My Mixed Media Mondays Journal Page #6

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity!, a personal crafting blog!

who: I'm Becca S, a 60+ artsy-craftsy loving blogger from the USA Midwest who has been doing fine arts and practical arts since age 6 with piano lessons. Gradually at age 9, I started 'officially' learned cooking, baking and sewing through 4-H Club. At age 10, learning to play the clarinet for 5th grade beginning band began. Being in a small rural school, I switched to bass clarinet around 9th grade. Flower arranging and nature crafts were added for 4-H and I even competed a few times in FHA organization (now known as FCCLA) doing flower arranging.

where: This post is a non-design team project. It's page #6 in My Mixed Media Mondays Journal.

when: Monday, August 10, 2026; due to needed drying time, I won't be launching the blog post until sometime on Tuesday August 11th.

My Mondays Mixed Media Journal Page #5 on 20 July 2026

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity!, a personal crafting blog!

who: Hello! I'm Becca S, a 60+ year old artsy-craftsy blogger, who loves mish-meshing ages of products plus different companies' products! For me that's part of the creative fun...like solving a jigsaw puzzle!

where: This is a non-design team related project. When my blogging schedule allows, I enjoy doing something creative that I want to take some time to do.

when: Monday, July 20, 2026

why: About two months ago or so, I started 'My Mondays Mixed Media Journal' and this is #5 page.

what: MMMMJP #5 = weather theme journal page

how: mediums used are: colored pencil, colored ink pen, stamp pad ink, alcohol marker, washable marker, highlighter marker, soft waxy/paint, gold glitter finish acrylic paint & permanent marker.

processes include: cursive handwriting, stenciling/tracing, dotting, smearing, coloring...

1. 9 inch x 6 inch spiral bound sketchbook; 30 sheets of medium surface = Tree House Pad and Paper, Inc.

2. yellow (for large circle/sun) and blue (pool of water) Paint Sticks = sold in a 4-color set by Art Skills = in my stash box for over 2 years; and blue was softer, waxier than the yellow and went on thick so I used a tissue to help smear the blue to give the look of splashed out water...this also helped it to dry quicker

3. teal/aqua blue (for clouds with rain) highlighter marker = Bic; I've had these for 2-3 years

4. hot pink and red ink pens (+ navy blue for 1 set of waves) = Paper Mate

5. gray, black colored pencils (for the quarter moon) = Marvy Uchida; I've had these for 3-4+ years

6. Pea Green alcohol marker (borderline) = Arteza; I've had a few colors of Arteza alcohol markers given to me 3-4+ years ago

7. yellow washable marker (for 3 little suns that were stenciled & 1 stenciled star) = Jot

8. gold glitter finish acrylic paint (dots) = Folk Art/Plaid; I've had this small paint bottle for 2 years or more

9. Narwhal/gray mini stamp pad (dots/dabs) = Lawn Fawn

10. children's/folk/country song "You Are My Sunshine" = written by Paul Rice and then he sold the rights for $35 to Jimmie Davis who along with Charles Mitchell, played/sung/recorded the song. 1939-1940.

11. many suns stencil sheet = Simple Stories

12. large circles were created with a homemade stencil (punched hole in an index card)

13. star, irregular border line(s), cloud with rain lines, set of 2 wave lines = very old stencils and stencil ruler found at my mom's house in the past 2 years; I think these are about 40-50 years old!!!!

LINK-UPs:

how-to notes: the smooshed paint paper layer is one of four made on May 11-12, 2025; four acrylic paints were squirted out randomly in different amounts and locations; then a 'top layer' placed to press/smoosh/spread the paint plus when 'peeling' off that top layer, it pulled on the excess paint to give those vertical lines/ridges!

My MTTCC #113 DT project using Smooshing (Paint) Technique Theme on 23 May 2025

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog!

why: Today's posting shares my #113 smooshing (with 4 acrylic paints) technique card DT commitment for MTTCC or My Time To Craft Christmas. We're close to ending a series requiring supply or technique and this installment requires the smooshing technique chosen by another DT member. You can use either ink or paint and there are different variations how those can be pushed/moved/squeezed/smooshed around.

when: #113 starts May 23, 2025 and ends in 13 days.

what: Happy Holidays non-traditional Christmas card

how-to notes: Smooshing technique with ink or paint can be achieved in different ways. I put on a bit too much paint so I ended up with 4!!!! panels! I picked 4 acrylic paints with 1 of them being a metallic type (gold) that I squirted out in different amounts and areas. Only the gray was a planned location to act as a base/ground layer possibly.

I put a solid color same size cardstock or paper facedown on top of the paint and then pressed around to smoosh and spread the paint then started in the bottom right corner to peel up the top panel. The peeling off of a top layer also pulls on the paint and added those vertical lines/ridges.

Then once that was set aside to dry, I repeated with 2 more. These 3 additional cards will be showing up in mid-May to mid-June posts. I let it air-dry for over 6 hours.

1. green crystal hearts = multi-pack = Crafter's Square

2. Metallic Gold and Green = acrylic paints by Crafter's Square

3. Neon Pink acrylic paint = Crafter's Closet

4. Pewter Gray acrylic paint = Apple Barrel

5. white cardstocks originally 6" squares; reduced slightly for both layers = Art Skills

6. banner, star, snowflake ephemera + holly & berries scrap paper = Bo Bunny

7. green embroidery floss = Coats

8. enamel dots = Freckled Fawn

My MTTC #560 DT Square Shape-Based Card theme project on 16 May 2025

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog!

why: This posting's focus is for my manager/DT commitment to My Time To Craft. We're just past the halfway point in our shaped-card bases required themes! Another team member decided to do square shape. My background is smooshed paint technique; this is a top layer applied to the 'base/main' layer with the paint. After pressing down this light yellow cardstock to smoosh the paint a bit, I peeled up the yellow cardstock layer from the bottom right corner and went on a diagonal path which pulled the paint causing those vertical lines/ridges!!! Cool!!

when: #560 starts May 16, 2025 and lasts 13 days.

what: Celebrate Sunshine Flowers Birthday Card

how-to notes:

1. Pewter Gray acrylic paint = Apple Barrel

2. Neon Pink acrylic paint = Crafter's Closet

3. Green acrylic paint = Crafter's Square

4. Metallic Gold acrylic paint = also Crafter's Square

5. cardstocks were trimmed just under 6" square original size at 5.5" for the background layer and 5.75" for the base = Art Skills

My MTTC #546 STENCILS only theme DT card for 1 November 2024

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog!

purpose: MTTC is My Time To Craft challenge blog that I've been part of for many years. This time another DT member suggested we try to use stencils only. The theme is stencils only (if you can; do your best).

when: MTTC #546 starts November 1st and lasts for 13 days.

what: Birthday wishes stenciled card (couldn't resist adding some purple paint dots and outlining)

notes:

1. purple cardstock = Pen + Gear (cut a bit more than A2 size; about 5.75-6" high x 4.75" wide)

2. ivory cardstock = Neenah (cut to A2 size)

3. 2 different stencil sheets used for the main ivory panel = both from Crafter's Square (stars were done first; then banner was 2nd; candles were 3rd; and then 'birthday wishes' was 4th/last to be applied)

4. stamp pads = Stampin' Up (Tangerine Tango, Wild Wasabi, Tempting Turquoise, and Wisteria Wonder)

5. purple glitter paint pen = Crafter's Square

and

what: PROJECT #2 = 2nd attempt; using same diamonds and stars but different image and sentiment but same 4 ink colors

notes for #2:

21. kraft flat card base A2 size with matching envelope = bought on Amazon

22. ivory cardstock panel = Neenah

23. ink pads = Stampin' Up (Tempting Turquoise, Wisteria Wonder, Tangerine Tango and Wild Wasabi)

24. one stencil sheet using 4 elements = Crafter's Square

My Christmas or Not Bingo #9 Challenge DT Project using Column G for 1 Sept 2024

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog!

{I want to finish this post but will launch it today September 1st. However, here's why: my mom just died yesterday Aug 31st at 10:45am. It was sudden, over the course of 16 hours.}

purpose: this posting showcases my newest DT contribution for Christmas or Not Bingo Challenges blog. We started out as Christmas only topics using the Bingo board but co-owner/manager Leslie expanded it to give players the option to use other occasions

when: #9 starts September 1-October 15, 2024; must use the BINGO board and only use 1 vertical column; mine is "G"

notes
: info will be shared starting with the requirements of the "G" column

notes:

11. green = chartreuse, green and white buffalo plaid cardstock (The Paper Studio for cardstock)

12. free = text stickers (from The Simple Life sticker book by Simple Stories); red, kraft,

13. splatters = brown acrylic paint that was applied to a soft bristle toothbrush and then flicked all over the green and white buffalo plaid cardstock panel; also used to stencil the diamond border line; also used for the first stenciled-layer of 'family' but too much leaked through

14. frames = chartreuse plastic frame (Ki Memories; oldie); also created a Christmas items print washi tape frame on top of the plastic frame (vendor = ?)

15. pearl = two aqua blue pearls are located on each side of 'family'
