MTTCC Theme #51 DT inspiration card about favorite technique starts 6 January 2023

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! On this 1 of 2 personal paper-crafting blogs of mine, today's post is a Rootin'-Tootin' Drum Toting Christmas card for my DT commitment with My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog.

MTTCC Theme #51 is about using your favorite technique to make your Christmas card and then to tell us why it's a favorite in their blog post. The competition goes from January 6-19, 2023. Make sure to use the MTTCC blog link to take you over to the Theme #51 post in order to see what my crew-mates have made.

One of my favorite techniques is painting because I love adding a mixed media process into my projects. I've used some different approaches on this card. The lasered wood veneer of "MC" has a brushed layer of gray acrylic paint and then topped with a brushed layer of silver glitter paint and a top brushed layer of gold glitter paint. For the recycled kraft packaging panel that the lasered wood veneer was adhered to, some gray acrylic paint was smeared in different length strokes from left to right. The metallic glitter paints were applied with either dabs or small lines using the side/edge of the foam brushes.

Rootin'-Tootin' Drum Toting Christmas card=

Some design notes:

a. The boy die-cut, the plaid with holly print strip on side, and the small triangle scrap cut on left gold corner are from Bo Bunny.

b. gold snowflake dazzles/stickers are Paper Wishes website

c. the pinecone triangle scrap is from a Fancy Pants Designs paper pad; the wood button with pink resin center is from Fancy Pants Designs Cozy Christmas collection.

d. gold sheen cardstock started as 6" square and was cut down to a 5" square; Art Skills/Dollar General

e. base thick kraft cardstock cut to 5" x 7" is from Colorbok

f. the kraft cardstock panel that the wood veneer is attached to is recycled packaging

g. the paints and the wood veneer were bought at Dollar Tree

h. I'm using golds, kraft, and grays/silvers out of my January TGSB kit I made on January 1st. Lisa Hidy and Lori Stroup have partnered for a few years with a monthly challenge formula for building a 'work' kit to use. When the month is over, either roll items over into your next month's kit or put them back in your stash. It's been several months since I've built a work kit so I thought I'd try to get 3 maybe 4 Christmas card with this. TGSB links will be listed a bit later in the post. (The Great Stash Bash)

Photo from kit of the mini kit pre-planned for this card: Note: yellow checked gingham, gold glitter dot, tree with deer print were not used. The green plaid's reverse side has the pine branch/pine cone print. The pinkish-red scrap only had a tiny triangle cut from the other end that was used. At the top of the photo's caramel brown with ivory dot print and the gray with white dot print were not used either.

The whole kit has 12 photos with at least 6-8 cards planned out of it.

MTTCC #47 Theme is Elves or Gnomes starting 11 November 2022

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! As I keep saying every 2 weeks, my heart gets excited about crafting Christmas cards! This one is no exception. The layout did bother me a bit but instead of doing a horizontal, my focal image appeared better to me in a vertical slimline form.

My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog's #47 theme requires elves or gnomes. It's okay to use just 1 like I have. Online talented friend Mary Smith (Createful Heart Design) drew this adorable envelope- holding gnome.

Gnome/Gnomie featured focal Christmas card:

Some design notes and vendors about this card:

1. slimline light tan/sand cardstock base is 4" wide x 8.5" high

2. 3 other solid color cardstock scraps are from stash

3. Createful Heart Design/Mary Smith for the gnome digital image; black fine marker borders were added by me; also little white and silver snowflakes (Hot Off The Press) were added by me; colored by me

4. candy cane patterned paper is from The Paper Studio

5. "MC" green foil/metallic dazzle/lettering and medium white and silver snowflake are from Hot Off The Press available at The Paper Wishes website

6. an old white stamp pad was applied with smearing motions in order to give the paper scraps' edges a snowy touch

8 July 2022 MTTCC #38 Theme is Snow Globes Christmas Cards DT project

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog!! My heart got overjoyed when I spotted this snow globe die-cut and the navy blue snowflake patterned cardstock from Pink Paislee's Together For Christmas (2019).

But more details later. This posting showcases cards made for my design team commitment with My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog. Starting July 8, 2022 the topic challenge #38 is Snow Globes. This was suggested by another DT member and I thought it would be a good one for us to try. Luckily I came across this "Joy To The World" one while searching my stash of winter holiday themed supplies!

Card #1: If We Can Only Shake To Fill The World With Joy Christmas card=

Gold tempera paint was applied to the light blue cardstock top and bottom sections. The gold mirror foil scrap piece came like that in an assortment package. I apologize for not checking the cuts but I like how it copies the gold from the globe base and the word "world".

Silver with blue metallic snowflake dazzles from Paper Wishes website were scattered around the card. Blue glitter decorative tape helped to create a 'table surface' skewed line for the globe to sit on. The light kraft flat card base with matching envelope were bought at The Paper Source website. Overall, simply lovely.

Card #2= Cozy inside the snow globe Christmas card:

Most of the card elements are also from Pink Paislee's Together at Christmas collection. The flat taupe card case with a matching envelope are from Paper Source. The brown glitter deer stickers, aqua green cardstock, and black with kraft checked paper are old stash items. Note: the bottom two rows were cut from the bottom of a sheet with cut-apart elements that included the little snow globe card and I just taped them to the bottom edge of the top half of a sheet from the paper pad to fill the space. Voila'!

10 June 2022 MTTCC #36 Theme is Candles and or Lanterns DT cards

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! The last few years I've really enjoyed creating Christmas cards throughout the year! Getting them ready for mailing is a whole other ballgame!!! Does anyone else experience that?

This posting features candle or lantern-themed Christmas cards for My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog. I'm on the design team and these cards are also shown on MTTCC posting (link will be included below). Challenge #36 competition starts June 10 and goes to June 23, 2022. Make sure to check the challenges every 2 weeks for a new topic. We try to provide different wintery and festive themes to help you create a variety of holiday cards.

Card #1 was crafted to sort of look like the outer view of the front door of a house or cabin. With lanterns on each side and a greenery arrangement in the center. Both patterned cardstocks and ephemera are from the Cottage Christmas collection by Fancy Pants Designs (2018).

Card #1 Lighting Your Way Home For Christmas card=

Red ink was applied to all cardstock edges except for the light kraft flat card base (from The Paper Source website). The red metallic foil dazzles (MC) are from Paper Wishes website.

Card #2= Blessed Advent--Tis the Season To Rejoice Christmas card=

A few design and vendor notes: the light kraft flat card base with matching envelope are from The Paper Source website; the solid and patterned papers are scraps; the 2 die-cuts/ephemera are from Echo Park's Away in a Manger collection; the sheer ribbon was white and was altered with a green glitter paint pen; top background papers' edges were inked in blue

Didn't both cards turn out to be lovely? Festive without being too fussy.

27 May 2022 MTTCC #35 Theme of Wreaths DT cards

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! I'm Becca S as I go by in blogland and my husband and I live in the USA heartland, the Midwest. I spent the bulk of my childhood years in Illinois while he grew up in Missouri. Our paths crossed in June 1995 which was 5 years after I'd moved to the St. Louis metro area. His first wife died in March 1995 and his oldest sister came to work at the decorating store where I did about the same time. She tried to introduce us for awhile and finally 6 days after I turned 33, Joe agreed to meet me! We quickly connected and were married 7 months and 1 week after meeting!!! <3

It's been awhile since I shared any personal info so I thought I'd go back to the beginning of my love story that has continued for over 26 years now.

He tolerates (!!) my crafting! It brings me joy and he hears many of our friends and family state how they enjoy receiving one of my handmade cards. Today's blog posting showcases wreath-themed cards for my Design Team commitment for My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog.

#35 challenge starts May 27, 2022 and ends June 9th. I've crafted 2 cards with 1 showing a wreath on a door and the other it is around the deer's neck!!

Card #1 Welcome To Our Home Christmas card=

A few design and vendor notes: Bo Bunny's Christmas Treasures 6" x 8" paper pad (2019) for the gorgeous foil striped patterned cardstock. A gift tag circle front panel is the focal. The red metallic foil dazzles of "MC" are from Paper Wishes website.

Card #2 Merry Christmas Dear card=

A few design and vendor notes for card #2: Bo Bunny's Christmas Treasures 6" x 8" paper pad (2019) for the lovely holly and berries patterned cardstock. More red metallic foil dazzles from Paper Wishes website. More gift tags upcycled. The top one with the deer has foam tape under it to add dimension. And in the photo below, the mini clothespin clip with the wood deer made it hard to get a good view on the scanner plate. I wanted to show both views. Red flat card base with matching envelope were purchased at The Paper Source website.

15 April 2022 MTTCC #32 Bells Theme for Christmas Cards

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! My heart gets excited to make Christmas cards, however I have to confess that I didn't send enough out this year. A few long-distance friends got our 25th anniversary photo collage card instead of a hand-made Christmas one. So I need to carve out some time periodically to start addressing envelopes and have an official tracking list for 8 months from now. This post shows an overlarge creation. I haven't framed it yet...maybe...not sure. But due to its size, I will hand-deliver it whether framed or not.

This oversized bells theme is for My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog #32. The challenge competition runs from April 15-28, 2022. For bells, it can be sleigh bells, jingle bells, handbell/choir, etc.

Can you see the gold spangles tulle? Isn't that an elegant touch?!!!

1. The base is the black cardstock with dimensions of 8" wide x 10.25" high.
2. The large image is a free coloring printable from Super Coloring website. It was color-filled with colored pencils. The interior of the bells have a layer of grey mist as the base with yellow as the topper. The interior of the ribbon shown in the bow has a layer of emerald green with Mediterranean teal as the topper. The holly leaves have the veins outlined in cappuccino with a base of olive green and a topper of deep teal. Red and Wildfire were combined for the holly berries. The outer ribbon/bow is emerald green and the bells are yellow.
3. The sentiment is a dark pine green metallic foil dazzle of "Merry Christmas" (from Paper Wishes website/company).
4. Three yellow/amber crystal gems are scattered around to add more of the bell and tulle gold hues.

Card #2 Love and Joy Come To You =

a few design notes:

1. white scalloped flat base card with envelope are from set from The Paper Studio (part of a Christmas gift 2020 from my sister's family)

2. berry print cardstock and berry branch die-cut = Pink Paislee's Together for Christmas collection

3. the red with white dots print cardstock = The Paper Studio's Mint Berry paper pad 2016

4. sticker, gems, red ink stamp pad and washi tape = stash

Card #3 'Tis the Season To Be Jolly=

the closeup distorts the sticker image but helps show Santa's hand is holding a gold bell=

Note: same supplies used as card #2 with the addition of twine for the bow

Didn't cards #2 & #3 turn out really well?!?!! A bit of elegance and rustic mixed. Traditional colors. Gold in the decorative tape along with the scalloped base to me are the elegant touches. I'm just thrilled how well these came together.

Using HQCB Fan Group Freebie Image for Thinking Of You Card

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! I'm doing a crossover promotional posting today to promote my new challenge blog Heart's Quest Challenge Blog and the Heart's Quest Challenge Fans group in Facebook.

Over a week ago, I posted 2 freebie images in the Fans group. I printed out 2 different sizes for the single heart and 1 size of the large double hearts with key which I colored last weekend. I posted a pic in the fans group of those colored images earlier today and I've just finished making a flat slimline Thinking of You with the larger size single heart card.

Chromatic Grid Heart=

This will be shared in the fans group and in a HQCB posting.

I will also share a photo in the FB group "100 Patterned Papers" because of the pink and white patterned paper is from Mint Berry by The Paper Studio that I'm trying to bash this year. I started in mid-January with 63+ sheets left out of the original 80 and I'm down to 50+ sheets.

4 March 2022 MTTCC #29 with Angels Christmas Theme Card for DT

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! I've got a small size Christmas card done 2 ways to showcase for this posting for March 4th MTTCC DT commitment. It's 4.25" wide and 5.5" high...that's it! And it's packed with angels--as the focal/sticker and in the main paper feature. Come join us at My Time To Craft Christmas challenge blog and show us your Angel themed Christmas card creations!

There is a 3rd Angel card shown almost at the end of the posting and it is shown on MTTCC as another DT inspiration project. Make sure to use the link and visit MTTCC to see what the other DT crew members crafted for this theme challenge!

***********************

Design notes:

1. Black cardstock bases made from 1 sheet folded in half and then divided for top fold/bottom open 4.25" wide and 5.5" high each (Pen + Gear)

2. Echo Park's Away in the Manger collection for the angel print cardstock (about 4" wide x 4.25" high) and the 2 angel 'elements' stickers

3. green cardstock sections are 4" wide and 1" deep (either Neenah or Pen + Gear)

4. bronze glitter and gold glitter foam stickers are from an ornament filler package (bought at Dollar Tree in December 2020)

5. green metallic foil 'dazzles' sentiments of 'Merry Christmas' (Paper Wishes website)

6. gold metallic gel highlighter 'pen/marker' (Creative Devotion; 1 color of a 3 color set) was used to contrast the angels in the cardstock paper versus the focal stickers; I knew with the very light sage green background and the ivory tones of the angels in both the cardstock and the stickers, that something was needed for contrast

7. black rollerball ink pen used to outline papers and angel stickers (for the angel stickers--this is another way to contrast from the angel print cardstock)

My 3rd Angel card and the 2nd one to be on MTTCC=

a few design notes about the JOY Angel Christmas card:

1. flat cardstock base in the beige, about 6.25" high and 4.25" wide (Neenah)

2. the taupe-y milk chocolate brown cardstock, about 5.75" high and 4" wide (Neenah)

3. olive green scrap pile

4. the 'snow scroll' is border pattern from designer paper from the Wal-Mart "the office" line; old stash item, might be 20 years old....

5. the angel is cut from one section of a folk art quilt type wrapping paper that has been in my stash for a long time--YES!!!

6. yellow heart crystal gem and 3 yellow crystal gems = stash

7. JOY alphas = Freckled Fawn company

8. foam tape strips are under the angel to give it some lift off the surface

Just For You Card using recent scrap kits from April 2020

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! This card started out to be non-traditional colors Christmas card but quickly went a different direction as I switched color combinations several times. Crazy! The yellow, gold, beige, peach, and moss greens can be seen out of kits I put together and merge (and morphed)!

Just For You card:

Above: Orange/peach/beige/cream floral paper= Webster Pages; yellow and gray solid cardstocks = Astrobrights; green scrap is the reverse side of a print; peach scrap is actually a bright neon orange cardstock scrap that is bleached out by the scanner; moss green and gold metallic stripe decorative tape = I forget? Maybe Pink Paislee; gold metallic "Just For You" dazzle = Paper Wishes

Above: is the inspirational kit selected by CKC blog for April 2020 for everyone to try copying
Below: the color palette spectrum of the inspirational kit's dominant colors

Above: 1 of 2 pics I took of a mini kit I put together in mid-April for the CKC challenge

Below: using the CKC kit as my color muse, I pulled together a few leftovers from the CKC kit to merge with some new and old stuff that followed the guidelines of TGSB

Shout out to The Great Stash Bash started this year by Lisa H and Lori S which can be reached at both of their blogs. The April kit link-up has ended.

Counterfeit Kit Challenge Blog (CKC) has a monthly link-up that has re-started for May, but I will link this posting to it.

On here, I will post the link of the final April posting which is about 'killing' your kit. If you've not encountered any of their posts, they have a very unique approach to scrapbooking through counterfeiting and forgeries. Don't panic and call the authorities however! This is about copy cats. How can you use items already in your stash that closely resemble/mimic what a vendor has assembled for selling?

Create a Custom Background challenge for May 2020 at APTS blog

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! My heart's been creatively committed to the colors of 2 kits I've assembled in the past 2 weeks or so. I'll talk about those later in this posting. Lots of peach, coral, orange, pink, mint green, spring green, and a neutral like creamy butter are many of the major color tones.

APTS blog May 2020 theme is Custom Background; Chana has described using inks, paints, stencils, etc. she doesn't want patterned paper...I thought that meant not a full piece of designer/patterned paper for the background, so my lattice-work wasn't quite what she wanted. Please read her rules better than I did! :)

Lattice of florals card:

This photo doesn't show the cardstocks' colors well but allows the sentiment 'dazzle' sticker image to contrast better against that silver foil doily! YEA!!! It's another of my cards made recently with metallics or glitter or foil that the printer scanning just doesn't allow the sheen to show as evident as a photos do. When the card sits angled on top of my printer, it looks so pretty to see the glimmer of the doily, the sentiment, and the pink gems.

Lovely card, don't you think?!! I'm trying to work on clustering of embellishments so that's why I have 3 of the gorgeous ranunculus  flower stickers from My Mind's Eye together with a short row of pink gems.

Some vendors/manufacturers:
a. Astrobrights/Neenah = yellow cardstock used for the base (5" x 7"); creamy butter strip of CS;
b. My Mind's Eye = 5 of the prints with 4 of them are set up in pairings due to being double-sided cardstocks; also the gorgeous ranunculus stickers
c. Paper Wishes = bronze dazzle sentiment "Best Wishes"
d. Dollar Tree = the chain store where I discovered the small silver foil doily (set of 25)!!! and the pink gems

Papers and stickers were pulled from my stash in order to be part of 2 kits (Counterfeit Kit Challenge blog and The Great Stash Bash challenge from Lisa and Lori).

Recipe formula to follow challenge at MTTC blog for 1 May 2020

Welcome to Becca's Heart for Creativity blog! My heart has desired to get some easy cards made for the moms of 2 classmates from childhood. One mom had hip surgery and needed a get well card. The other mom is celebrating a birthday this weekend.

So I used this recipe formula challenge to get these 2 cards made. Totally different themes but the papers and embellishments were from the same kit I assembled for several projects due at the end of April.

The recipe formula to follow=
a. 2 or more images
b. 1 patterned paper
c. 2 die-cuts or buttons
d. 1 ribbon or bow

Top card: follows the recipe perfectly! 2 freebie digi images, 1 chevron patterned paper, 2 die-cut accents, and 1 cording/ribbon tied with knot.

Bottom card: follows the recipe with some odd pairings= 1 freebie image & 1 bronze dazzle sentiment image, 1 floral patterned paper, 3 die-cut accents (2 photo corner tabs and butterfly), and 1 double cording tied bow.

Greens, yellows, oranges, and some pinks are the key colors I focused on for quickly assembling a kit that was a mixture of a few leftovers from a mini kit made about 10 days ago, a few new and old items from my work table, and a few spanking new things received in the mail 2 days ago!

Here are a few photos of the kit which is explained in detail in another posting (The Great Stash Bash). Partial credit for the mini kit leftovers mentioned in the last paragraph can be seen reflected in a posting last week (Mini Kit for April 2020 CKC blog).

Above: Most of the green and white chevron paper is used for the green birthday card.

Above: The bronze sentiment image is from the package shown near the green card. And the digi images are not colored yet and seen on the left. Cording and some other embellishments got cropped out of the photo that were sitting to the left.

Above: The green card & envelope is seen in the corner. The 2 die-cut accents used on the green card are in the center of the photo.
Below: the floral patterned cardstock is shown on the orange get well soon card

A few more scanned and cropped close-ups for each card:

Manufacturers/Vendors include but aren't limited to:
a. Bugaboo for the freebie birthday theme digital images
b. The Paper Studio (green and white chevron patterned paper)
c. Webster Pages (orange floral cardstock)
d. Crafter's Square (butterfly)
e. Darice (green and orange small size flat cards with matching envelopes)
f. My Mind's Eye (photo corner tabs; maybe the 2 die-cut accents, but not sure)
g. Paper Wishes/Hot Off the Press ('dazzle' get well soon sentiment image)
